We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and ambitious Pukeiti Ranger, to elevate the vision to enable future generations to enjoy this world class garden and rainforest. This a permanent full time role working Thursday-Monday.

Pukeiti is an international garden and rainforest and of the total area of 360 hectares, 25 hectares grows the most diverse collection of rhododendrons in the world. The property has recently undergone major development works and is experiencing significant visitor growth which means it’s an exciting time to come on board!

 

About the Role

 

The role of the Pukeiti Ranger is very unique and varied. It covers three areas; the Rainforest, the People and the Gardens. This role is ideal for someone who has experience in Predator Free work, an  interest in horticulture/gardening and ideally has a tradesperson skillset.

You will be undertaking Predator Free work programmes, track maintenance and implementing the Pukeiti Biodiversity Plan in our stunning Rainforest. As people come to visit Pukeiti you will be sharing stories and knowledge with our people in different forms and also maintaining an active relationship with tangata whenua. If you are not in the rainforest you will be working with Pukeiti staff and wider Regional Gardens team to help present world class garden experiences.

Within this role there will also be some building and facilities maintenance and projects. Examples of this would be maintaining the water system, carpentry tasks and general facilities maintenance. The ability to operate and maintain a wide range of powered hand tools as well experience in tractor and ATV use would be a strong advantage for this role.

 

Mōu | About you

This varied and interesting role requires someone with energy, enthusiasm and excellent project management skills. You will need to be versatile, resourceful and have exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. Ideally you would love the outdoors, along with having a good level of fitness and an ability to do some heavy lifting. An appropriate qualification and relevant experience in biosecurity/biodiversity would be an advantage and a current driver's license is essential.

We like to set people up for success so you'll be a leading applicant if you have the following:

  • Knowledge of field techniques in predator monitoring and management
  • Appropriate and current licences and certificates for relevant aspects of the position, for example current Controlled Substance Licence and Growsafe
  • Practical experience in garden maintenance and knowledge of New Zealand flora and fauna
  • Awareness and understanding of Maori history, tikanga, Te Ao Māori, Te Ao Pakeha and Te Reo Māori
  • Proven reporting ability, both oral and written
  • Demonstrable experience as a tradesperson or a career with similar skillset

This position is full time working Thursday to Monday.
