About us

Pukeiti is an international garden and rainforest and of the total area of 360 hectares, 25 hectares grows the most diverse collection of rhododendrons in the world. The property has recently undergone major development works and is experiencing significant visitor growth which means it’s an exciting time to come on board!

 

About the Role

The Head Gardener - Pukeiti will lead the maintenance of the gardens and the extensive plant collection at Pukeiti. This hands on role takes responsibility for the day to day operations of the garden and will manage, lead and inspire the gardening team of four staff.

You will play a pivotal role in promoting Pukeiti to the people of Taranaki and beyond; through garden tours, events and functions. You will also support management in the development of the gardens through contributing at the design stage and implementing new planting plans.

 

About you

This role requires a great people leader with experience creating a team environment that fosters pride, purpose and productivity. You will need to be versatile, resourceful and have exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. Innovation and self-motivation is required, together with a good level of fitness and an ability to do some heavy lifting. A current driver’s licence is essential.

We like to set people up for success so you’ll be a leading applicant if you have:

  • Proven experience in staff management and the ability to build a positive team culture, convey a compelling vision and clear team purpose
  • A nationally recognised qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Practical experience in gardens management and maintenance
  • A passion for plants and the practical care of them
  • A genuine interest and experience in driving continual improvement activities and delivering cultural change in a challenging environment


This position is full time working from Monday through Friday, with the occasional weekend day required for workshops and garden festivities.
