Environmental Planner - Consents


We are looking for an Environmental Planner to join our Consents section at the Taranaki Regional Council. This position is permanent full time.

Our main office is based right in the centre of the region, under the Maunga (mountain), in Whakaahurangi (Stratford).

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The responsibilities of this role involve assisting in the sustainable management of the Taranaki Region through investigating, evaluating, and advising upon consent applications to the Council under the Resource Management Act (1991) and National Environmental Standards, including the preparation of reports and associated documentation. Duties will also include communication with resource consent applicants and tangata whenua partners and advising Council in hearings and meetings.

This role reports to the Team Leader – Resource Consents.

 

Mōu | About you

Ideally the successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Environmental Sciences, Planning, Resource Management, or other similar field as well as experience (3 years) in the consents process, preferably in a similar work environment. Initiative and a positive attitude is paramount for this role. We like to set people up for success so you’ll be a leading applicant if you also have:

  • Practical knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991
  • Common knowledge of software applications, or quick to learn them
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a bustling work environment
  • Analytical problem solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team
