The role of Environment Officer will implement field activities associated with the Council’s biosecurity and biodiversity policy, strategies and plans. These plans include the regional pest management plans for Taranaki and Council’s biodiversity strategy. This position has a focus on Council’s biosecurity operations along with some involvement in our site led biodiversity programme. We are ideally looking for someone with a strong pest plants background.
You will be a leading contender for this interesting and challenging position if you have:
an appropriate tertiary qualification and relevant experience in biosecurity /pest plant and animal management ;
proven knowledge of field techniques in biosecurity and/or biodiversity monitoring and management;
an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals;
work effectively as a team member; and
strong computer literacy.
Based on relevant work experience you will have a good understanding of biosecurity and biodiversity monitoring, an understanding of the Biosecurity Act 1993 and the Resource Management Act 1991, along with excellent oral and written communication skills.
